GCS Credit Union Donates to UCPH Center for Autism

In honor of Autism Awareness Month, GCS Credit Union has donated the proceeds from April’s Jean Day charity drive to UCP Heartland. GCS employees had the option to wear jeans on Fridays and Saturdays in April in exchange for a minimum $15 donation. This month employees from all 7 branches were able to
raise $1,057 for the organization.

United Cerebral Palsy Heartland is a nonprofit United Way Agency that
provides high quality programs and support to individuals with disabilities in Central and Eastern Missouri and Southwestern Illinois. UCP Heartland has been dedicated to serving the needs and advancing the independence of individuals with Cerebral palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder, traumatic brain injuries, and other physical and developmental disabilities since 1953.

GCS has hosted Jean Days for employees every month for several years,
and in that time they have regularly donated proceeds to local charities and
nonprofit agencies.

GCS Board of Directors Election Held at Annual Meeting

Granite City, IL – GCS Credit Union announces the positions of Directors at the annual meeting held Saturday, March 7.

Re-elected to serve two-year terms as Director were Charles (Bob) Marcus, Cecil Williams, Robert Lyles, Tom Grady, Ken Newton and Nick Huniak.

Continuing Officers for 2015 are:

  • Cecil Williams, Chairman
  • George Mitchell, Vice-Chairman
  • Jim Devine, Treasurer
  • Nick Huniak, Secretary

Credit unions are member-owned, not-for-profit financial cooperatives that have a volunteer Board of Directors.

During the meeting GCS Credit Union was awarded with the First Place state Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award and Honorable Mention in the state Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award, presented by Pat Voss, Illinois Credit Union League Regional Director. These awards are given to credit unions who exemplify the “People Helping People” philosophy. GCS Board members presented a 2014 financial review of GCS and were available to answer additional questions from members in attendance.

In an ongoing effort to support the local community, GCS employees were able to wear jeans on Fridays and Saturdays during the month of February in return for a $15 donation. The employees came together to raise $1,025 for Partners for Pets in Troy, Illinois.

Partners for Pets regularly visits animal control facilities to rescue animals that have used up their time, need medical care or are too fragile for shelter life. Partners for Pets provides care to each animal prior to adoption. This includes booster shots, worming, heartworm check, monthly preventative shots and other necessary care.

GCS Donates to Edwardsville YMCA

In an effort to support the local community, GCS Credit Union recently donated to the Edwardsville YMCA as a Platinum Partner.

The Edwardsville YMCA as deep roots in the local area. Since its beginning in 1949 the Y, “has been dedicated to enriching the lives of all individuals and families.”

Donations to the YMCA go towards financial assistance, children in need of year-round care, program and membership needs of families, and anyone in the community striving to live a happier, healthier life.
